All applicants who submit an application form must agree to the Terms & Conditions set out below:

Terms & Conditions

    1. Applicants must be 18 years or over at the time of application.
    2. Mx Burlesque Australia welcomes applicants of all expression of identity and gender.
    3. Once the online application is submitted, there is to be no stage name or biography changes.
    4. Each finalist’s official acceptance into their State Final should be made with utmost due care. Pulling out of the competition will be granted under medical and extenuating circumstances only. Future reapplication will be refused if an adequate reason for withdrawal is not provided.
    5. An application fee of $30 is to be paid. This fee is non-refundable.
       In a commitment to making our space more welcoming and inclusive for our community, if you identify as Bla(c)k, Indigenous or a Person of Colour, Disabled, Transgender or Non-Binary, you are NOT required to pay the application fee.
    6. Once accepted into a State Final, finalists will be required to pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of $70.
    7. All photos on the application must be Professional Images (studio photography preferred). Obtaining relevant usage and permission from the photographer mandatory and is the responsibility of the applicant.
    8. After receiving confirmation of acceptance, the finalist will be sent an email with the finalist info pack.
    9. Previous national winners of the competition are not able to enter again (internationally or between the national competitions).
    10. It is compulsory for any applicant to have been performing as a Burlesque soloist under their stage persona for one year minimum.
    11. Each entrant MUST represent the state in which they reside. Exceptional consideration for entry into other states will be reviewed on a case by case basis, and subject to a majority vote of all MBA state producers and the National director. If accepted to compete in a state where they do not reside, entrants must cover their own costs to fly/travel to compete. Applicants can only apply to compete in one state per year.
    12. If entrants are applying from a state that does not have its own final, they are welcome to apply to compete in the closest state. Any transport or related costs to compete or fulfil title duties will be at the competitor’s expense. Finalists will not be paid for any performance in the competition.
    13. A State Final winner cannot compete in their own state the following year, as one of their duties is to hand over the title to the following year’s winner.
    14. By entering the competition, you agree to being photographed and filmed at any time during the competition by an official MBA photographer/videographer. These photos and video may be used on MBA online and printed publications and will remain the property of MBA.
    15. Finalists are required to promote the sale of tickets in their state via use of their own mailing lists, websites, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Assistance will be provided by MBA.
    16. Finalists agree to make themselves available for media opportunities relating to Mx Burlesque Australia and understand that in most cases, these editorials and shoots are unpaid by media.
    17. In no way is any performance submitted to MBA allowed to depict violence against women.
    18. Each finalist must perform routines of their own making that adhere to the rules and guidelines, outlined by the competition.
    19. MBA is not responsible for any injuries sustained in performances during the competition. Finalists must have their own Personal Accident Cover Insurance. We can recommend AON or Dancesurance. Finalists are responsible for their props and any injuries sustained as a result of their use. MBA events are covered by public liability insurance.
    20. The judge’s decision is final. Finalists will be judged according to the criteria of the competition and all scores are put through an Olympic scoring system, which deems to eliminate potential bias by removing the highest and lowest scores from the overall total.
    21. As a Mx Burlesque Australia title holder, you agree to promote yourself using your title in the correct way. In the reigning year of the title you can call yourself e.g. Mx/Miss/Mr Burlesque (State name). In the years following your reign, you must use the year in which you won e.g. Mx/Miss/Mr Burlesque (State Name) 2021 or Former Mx/Miss/Mr Burlesque State Name.
